Finally I've been able to release a game on 3D. Still to be updated and improved but the core gameplay loop has been implemented.
Ever since delving into 3D modelling and animation, I've wanted to release a game in 3D and indeed that extra dimension to the quadrant made development a little more complicated. I've been taking interest in Shooter/Shoot-em-up games lately that I wanted to make my game to be in those genres.
The title name has been on my head since this game started as a 2D game. When I think of a playable cast entirely of female characters two words came first to mind - amazon and valkyrie. Valkyrie has much more ring to it in other fiction genres while amazon is much more inclined to fantasy and maybe modern day.
Edit: I realized there's a bit of spelling mistake in the title but decided to go with it.
My first playable character is (on) a battleship because I wanted this character to be largest - the size scale ceiling - of my would be character roster. The title screen acts as a sort of teaser for the next character to be implemented as the intro sequence has the character(s) scroll into the screen.
Still more to learn and there's still a lot to improve:
Enemy behaviors - Currently, I've made enemies that don't explode move away from the player when too close. My main goal is for enemies not to move in a straight towards the player.
Optimizations - As the game progresses more and more enemies will spawn in the game. My old PC is really feeling the stress of that. I also have a problem with the game crashing on low-end mobile phones and some initial stutter on decent phones.
More bullet types and maybe a Gradius-like upgrade system - I plan to add seeking projectiles for both player characters and enemies. In the future I plan to add an upgrade system with the level-up mechanic where you upgrade the individual projectile type as well as some other stat boosts with choices similar to that of the Gradius games.
